"Yes, awareness and consciousness (mind) are different. Consciousness is the universe. All of creation exists only in consciousness. Awareness is the empty clear light in which it appears.
Body, mind, consciousness, universe, world, you, me--all is illusion. The mechanism for believing it is real is not explainable, but can easily be seen through by direct experience of it. Even if I or someone else were able to "explain" it in a way that is satisfactory to your "mind," you would have nothing. Understanding is worthless.
